Review: Down N Outz MY REGENERATION

Posted: 8/14/2010 5:30:18 PM // source: DrBristol.WordPress.com

Joe Elliott is a Mott The Hoople fan. A big fan.

Goes without saying, I guess, since the Def Leppard frontman has worn that on his sleeve his whole career. It’s refreshing to see a rocker who has attained the level of global success that he has still be a rock fan at heart. Elliott grew up loving Mott The Hoople and still does.

Elliott has often put his money where his mouth (and heart) is with his support of Ian Hunter and Mott; he was a driving force in organizing the memorial tribute for Mick Ronson and has always touted the music of his favorite band in interviews. So when Mott The Hoople reunited to make their historic stand at the Hammersmith they called Joe in for support, and he assembled a group of like-minded Mott devotees to perform some songs off the family tree that Mott fans probably never thought they’d get to hear from a stage ever again. The success of that gig led to what I can happily say is one of 2010's best surprises.

Joe Elliott Covers Mott The Hoople Rarities

Posted: 8/4/2010 2:24:17 PM // source: RollingStone.com

Check out this article on Joe Elliott's DOWN N' OUTZ, written by David Fricke (author of 1987's official Def Leppard biography "ANIMAL INSTINCT"), which has just been published on RollingStone.com.

It started as a gig. Last fall, Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott opened for his favorite band, British hard-rock legends Mott The Hoople, at one of their reunion shows in London. Backed by members of the English band the Quireboys, Elliott covered deep tracks from the weird period after Mott The Hoople broke up in 1975: singer Ian Hunter's early solo albums; records by the spinoff bands Mott and British Lions. "I wanted people to go, 'I never thought I'd hear that song live again ever!'" Elliott recalls.

That set list is now a studio album, My ReGeneration Vol. 1 (Mailboat), cut with the Quireboys and credited to Joe Elliott's Down 'N' Outz. Elliott excavates the ironic bombast of Hunter's "GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY" and the title track from his neglected 1977 album, "OVERNIGHT ANGELS" pulls three explosive obscurites from 1976's Shouting and Pointing by Mott, a band made up of the original group's rhythm section with a new singer and guitarist; and does "ONE MORE CHANCE TO RUN", the opening number from the 1978 British Lions album, made by those Mott remnants with yet another singer. To fill out My ReGeneration, Elliott also recorded two solo acoustic numbers, the short Mott ballad "APOLOGIES" and a Hunter song, "3000 MILES FROM HERE," that Elliott used to sing and play on guitar, with his mom, when he was a teenager.

Hi gang, thanx to everyone for posting your birthday wishes for yesterday, they were all very much appreciated, (especially the one from the young lady who posted the 2 things I said when we met, one of which was "I can see your bra" !!)

I had a pretty mild one, (visiting a friend's BBQ) compared to my 50th, in fact I was home by 8pm, well this is what happens when you have a 7 month old, as I'd imagine most of you know already !!

Thanx again you guys !!

Joe xx
