Def Leppardâs âHysteriaâ gets special issue #0
Vault Comics has revealed their Def leppard graphic novel is getting a #0 issue for Hysteria. Written by Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen and Eliot Rahal (Bleed Them Dry, The Vain, Midnight Vista), with illustrations by Alex Schlitz (Sagas of the Shield Maiden), colors by Fabi Marques (Barbaric, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and letters by Andworld Design, the special will give readers an early look at the graphic novel.
Included in the Hysteria zero issue release will be a hyper-limited foil variant edition signed by Def Leppardâs Phil Collen himself. Each signed copy will come with a CGC witnessed certificate of authenticity. Only 200 copies will be available, and can only be found in local comic shops. Pre-orders are open now.
âBlending music and comics together like this is an incredible and insane dream, and I could not be more thrilled by the work Eliot, Alex, and Vault have put into Hysteria. It has been a joy and one hell of a ride. I know fans are going to love it,â said Phil Collen, Def Leppard guitarist.
Co-writer Eliot Rahal said, âFrom the very beginning, before we had anything, this story felt big. Phil came to us with a vision, a ton of passion, and the word âHysteriaââsomething that has a lot of history for the band. Itâs something that carries a lot of meaning. A legacy. And in many ways, thatâs what this story is about. The Vault team worked with me tirelessly to help create a framework to capture that spirit. Then⊠as the team assembled and the art came in⊠I saw the idea take shape in real-time, and the weight of the project became even more real. I put everything I had into this book because it was clear to me that everyone else also had as well. Iâll be forever grateful for being a part of this project.â
Vault and Def Leppard have announced a special zero issue for Hysteria, the forthcoming graphic novel co-written by Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen and Eliot Rahal (Bleed Them Dry, The Vain, Midnight Vista), with illustrations by Alex Schlitz (Sagas of the Shield Maiden), colors by Fabi Marques (Barbaric, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and letters by Andworld Design. This extra-special single issue offering will give readers an early look at the much anticipated forthcoming graphic novel.

Continuing the celebration of rock, the graphic novel Hysteria follows Foz, the frontwoman of indie band Darkside, after she inherits her fatherâs estate and discovers it comes with a half-remembered guitar from her childhood. The guitar speaks to her, promising fame and success. Soon, it delivers. But when Darksideâs equipment is stolen at a massive music venue, just before theyâre set to take the stage with Def Leppard, Foz goes on the warpath to get it back. A knuckle-dusting rampage ensues, and the guitarâs true history is revealed.

Def Leppardâs Hysteria, the graphic novel, features never-before-heard music from Darkside, to be recorded in collaboration with Phil Collen, as it tells the story of the worldâs most dangerous guitar. Additional details on the release of the Darkside EP will be announced at a later date.
âAs a Midwestern native raised on rock and roll and a musician from a family of musicians, Foz and Darksideâs story has come to mean a lot to me,â added illustrator Alex Schlitz. âThe opportunity to work on this book with Def Leppard has been not only a huge honor, but such an exhilarating treat. Iâm so grateful to be part of the team bringing this story to life, and Iâve had such a blast working with Eliot, Phil, and Fabi to create this world. Iâm excited for everyone else to finally get to come on the journey with us!â

Def Leppard, Journey, Steve Miller Band Revive Classic Rock Staples At L.A.âs SoFi Stadium
No band on the bill, though, rocked harderâor made more use of the massive thrust stage inside SoFi Stadiumâthan Def Leppard. After a dramatic on-screen countdown, the British hair metal band emerged from plumes of smoke to a Pyromania introduction that fed into âRock! Rock! (Till You Drop)â. Lead singer Joe Elliott started exploring the space during âRocketâ, with bassist Rick Savage following suit on âFoolinââ.
By the time the second half of the set came around, the entire band had set up on the thrustâeven Rick Allen, who traded in his drum kit for a maraca on âThis Guitarâ. That track came on the heels of a shortened acoustic version of âTwo Steps Behindâ, which led into a stadium-wide singing of âHappy Birthday to Youâ for guitarist Vivian Campbell.
Besides those moments and âJust Like 73â (sans Tom Morello), Def Leppard pulled their setlist almost entirely from Pyromania and Hysteria. From âArmageddonâ, âAnimalâ, and âLove Bitesâ early on to closing the main set with âRock of Agesâ and âPhotographâ, to an encore of âHysteriaâ and âPour Some Sugar on Meâ, the band made sure that their tens of thousands of fans in the building went home happy.

âHe said, âTake this cassette home and see if you can come up with something.â I plugged the Destroyer straight into the Marshall and thatâs what came outâ: Phil Collen’s first Def Leppard solo is one of his most famous â and he did it in one take
via Guitar World
In 1982, Phil Collen was appointed Def Leppardâs newest electric guitar player following the departure of Pete Willis. That same year, he was put straight to the test as the English rock icons set about recording their third studio album, Pyromania.
Widely considered one of Def Leppardâs finest albums, the diamond-certified LP is seen as a turning point in the bandâs discography, and one that would allow them conquer the US. It has also been tipped by some as one of the greatest guitar albums of all time.
Def Leppardâs New Single Debuts At No. 1 On Multiple Charts
via Forbes
Earlier this summer, Def Leppard returned with an exciting new single titled âJust Like 73.â The tune quickly rose the ranks on iTunes, and it reached a number of sales-focused charts after its first full tracking week had passed. The cut, released in June, began disappearing from rankings after it sold so well upon its arrival, but now itâs back in glorious fashion.
âJust Like 73â debuts on two charts in the U.K. this week, after it was made available to buy on physical formats in the country. Def Leppardâs latest immediately gives the band another ruler in their home countryâand on more than one tally.
Def Leppardâs current single blasts in at No. 1 on both the Official Physical Singles and Official Vinyl Singles charts this week. The two rosters detail the bestselling songs in the U.K. on physical formats, with the latter including only those tracks that were made available to buy on wax.
âJust Like 73â marks Def Leppardâs second career No. 1 on the two charts it dominates this frame. The rockers ruled the rankings with their previous release, âLet Me Be the One,â which topped the tallies within the past few years.
The band has only accrued a pair of top 10 hits on the Official Vinyl Singles chart, with both reaching the throne. Meanwhile, on the Official Physical Singles list, theyâve earned one additional appearance inside the uppermost region. âWhen Love & Hate Collide,â Def Leppardâs first hit on the tally, peaked at No. 2.
As it opens in first place on the two aforementioned charts, âJust Like 73â is also back on another ranking in the U.K. Def Leppardâs single reappears on the all-format, all-style Official Singles Sales tally at No. 20.

Def Leppard rocks new generation at Fenway show
via Boston Herald
The kids wore Def Leppard t-shirts. The adults wore Journey shirts.
These fashion choices at Fenway Park on Monday night werenât absolute, but they outline a clear trend.
Buried deep in a recent press release about the current Def Leppard tour, the band announced the â18-44 demographic that now represents 58% of their fanbase.â This claim seems both absurd and obvious.
The rock fans of 2024 donât have a modern artist with Def Leppard vibes to latch on to so they have latched on to the actual Def Leppard. The group is fast approaching six billion streams in less than six years and the visceral proof was heard on Monday in the shouts of the kids in their shirts.
The Fenway show was basically a classic rock festival, a triple headlining bill of Lep, Journey and Steve Miller Band.
Steve Miller captured a couple generations with immortal rock ânâ roll nuggets. Go see him at a headlining gig next summer. He does his hits with reverence and joy. But he canât capture the 18-44-year-olds at 6 p.m. on a Monday.
Thanks to âDonât Stop Believinâ,â everybody loves Journey. Well, everybody but the guys in the band as once again members Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain are fighting in court while still sharing the stage. They can still play (see a scorching âStone in Loveâ)Â and singer Arnel Pinedaâs story is as inspiring as his voice, charm, energy, and charisma â next to nobody can do âSeparate Ways,â âBelievinâ,â âAny Way You Want Itâ as a back-to-back-to-back sprint like he does.
But Def Leppard dominated the night. On its diamond LPs of the â80s, the band found a unique space by chasing perfection while having fun. In concert, that chase still glitters.
On a night when Joe Elliott apologized for his voice as he battled an upper respiratory infection, he mostly sounded great. Behind him, the band locked into place â guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, bassist Rick Savage, and drummer Rick Allen somehow kept time like a Swiss watch while swinging like a bar band.
There were lot of âsomehowsâ to Def Leppardâs show.
âFoolinââ was heavy and somehow melodic. âAnimalâ had both a toughness and tightness. âJust Like â73â managed to be a new song that could have been a âHysteriaâ b-side. Fans of all ages get something from these delightful contrasts.
After nearly an hour of hits and deep cuts â the show spent a lot of time celebrating the 40th anniversary of âPyromaniaâ â Def Leppard closed with the triple shot of âPhotograph,â âHysteria,â and âPour Some Sugar on Me.â The trifecta triangulated what makes Def Leppard so damn popular: perfect Top 40 hooks baked into hard rock swagger and glammy. Just ask the kids.
