The Def Leppard front man opens up to Rolling Stone editor/author Fricke (Animal Instinct: The Def Leppard Story) about the band’s trajectory– from the teen hijinks of the band first conceived out of boredom as “Deaf Leopard” in post-war England through changes in the lineup and their continuing legacy headlining with opening acts that were once their aspirational idols. Elliott reveals what makes a great band, why a good rhyme trumps proper geography for a hit song, how modern rock training may be the worst thing for the future of rock music, living with the spectre ofHysteria, and more. Filmed at the Iridium in New York City.

Def Leppard’s frontman pays tribute to the man who wrote his favourite song. “Without him, I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing”
On Monday morning I got a text that said: ‘Have you heard?’ Those are the three most hated words in my life. I’m used to them now. I know what they mean. So I looked at my emails: ‘David Bowie dead.’ I thought it was a hoax. Then I turned on the TV news and there it was, confirmed by Duncan, his son.
It was already a bad couple of weeks in January. We’ve had the thirtieth anniversary of Phil Lynott’s death, and the twenty-fifth anniversary of Steve Clark dying. Lemmy’s gone, and now Bowie.
As I’ve been saying for a lot years, for people of our generation, we’ve got a lot of this ahead. When you think about McCartney, or Mick and Keith, they’re not going to be around forever… read the full story here
It took Joe Elliott ten years to make serious money from being lead singer of rock band Def Leppard. Elliott used to sit in a pub with the other band members, sipping a single pint of beer between them because they were so hard-up.
The singer-songwriter grew up in a terraced house in Sheffield and left school to work in a local steel factory for £8 a week.
He remembers signing his first record deal as a teenager with his feet up on the boardroom table of the record company, sipping whisky and smoking cigars…. Read the full Daily Mail article below or online
