In July 1982, Phil Collen walked into Battery Studios to audition for Def Leppard. He plugged in his Ibanez Destroyer and nailed āStagefrightā in the first take. He had similar results with āFoolinā,ā āPhotograph,ā and āRock of Ages,ā and then impressed the band even further with his singing chops. Next thing he knew, Phil was on the Pyromania tour and the album was catching fire all around the world. āOkay,ā Phil thought, “I guess Iām in the band.ā šø
