The band, competed by The Quireboys’ Paul Guerin (Guitar), Guy Griffin (Guitar) and Keith Weir (keyboards), plus Share Ross (Bass, ex Vixen) and Phil Martini (drums, Wayward Sons), take a different approach on âThis Is How We Rollâ to previous album. The album only features one cover version (The Tubes âWhite Punks On Dope) – alongside eleven original Joe Elliott penned tracks.
Guitarist Guy Griffin says, â(âThis Is How We Rollâ) is absolutely fantastic, probably one of the best records Iâve worked on. It doesnât sound like Leppard or the first two Down n Outz records. Itâs kind of all the stuff Joe grew up with, a lot of piano type stuff, a bit Elton John, one track a bit 10cc, a couple of good rockers⌠a real mix of stuff. Joeâs voice sounds amazing and itâs great fun to do.â
Joe Elliott says, âBoy, has this has been a long time coming?! Recorded in infrequent bursts of activity over a 5-year period whenever our respective motherships allowed, Iâm extremely proud of what weâve achieved with this album. Iâm blessed to have worked with such a superb bunch of musicians on this collection of songs. To a man, and woman (!), they completely got my vision of what I wanted us to convey on this record & as usual, working with a world class producer/engineer in Ronan McHugh has guaranteed the sound of the record to be top notch! I couldnât be more proud.â
Along with the announcement of the new studio album, Down ânâ Outz also release the rock out of title track and lead single âThis Is How We Rollâ, available to listen to HERE
From breathless opener âAnother Manâs Warâ to the lush âLast Man Standingâ, to the epic six minute âLet It Shineâ, this is an album that draws on all the influences that have shaped both Joe Elliott and the previous Down ânâ Outz albums to create a stunning collection of original songs. âThis Is How We Rollâ was produced by Joe Elliott with co-production by Ronan McHugh. The album was recorded at Joe Elliottâs own studio Joeâs Garage.
âThis Is How We Rollâ will be released on via UMC on 11th October 2019. The album will be available on CD, LP, digitally and also on limited edition 12â Picture Disc LP.
âThis Is How We Rollâ is now available to pre-order HERE
The Down ânâ Outz project was born in 2009 when Mott The Hoople reformed and asked long-time friend and fan Joe Elliott to get involved. Joe formed the Down ânâ Outz with Paul, Guy, Keith and Phil. Together they looked to bring songs by Mott The Hoople and spin off projects of Mott, Ian Hunter and British Lions to a wider audience.
In 2009 Down ânâ Outz supported Mott The Hoople at one of the bandâs five Hammersmith Apollo shows. The fan interest eventually led to the band looking to put together an album and. 2011 saw the release of the critically acclaimed debut My Re-Generation through Mailboat Records (Joe Perry, Walter Becker, Chris Isaak, Jeff Bridges). My Re-Generation included the singles âEngland Rocksâ and âOvernight Angels,â that reached No 4 and No 1 respectively on the US Media Base Rock chart -keeping Eric Claptonâs new single off the top of the chart for 2 weeks. The band then released a live DVD taken from those initial shows called âLive at Hammersmith Apollo.â A second studio album The Further Adventures ofâŚÂ was released in 2014 and featured the single âRock and Roll Queenâ. New bassist Share Ross (Vixen) debuted on 2017âs live album and DVD âThe Further Live Adventures OfâŚâ
A stunning live act – having toured with the likes of Paul Rogers across the UK (Including The Royal Albert Hall) and festival performances including High Voltage and Planet Rockstock, Down ânâ Outz are planning live dates to support âThis Is How We Rollâ.

DEF LEPPARDâS JOE ELLIOTT RELEASES TOUCHING VIDEO TRIBUTE TO FRIEND, LEGENDARY GUITARIST MICK RONSON ON ANNIVERSARY OF DAVID BOWIEâS CLASSIC âJOHN, IâM ONLY DANCINGâ VIDEO
Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott has released a touching video tribute to his friend and early guitar hero, the late, great legendary musician Mick Ronson. Filmed in the midst of his bandâs recent arena tour, the video opens with a film projector projecting cinematic footage of Elliott performing Ronsonâs ballad âThis Is For Youâ on acoustic guitar in various locations on the road as archival photos and vintage black and white footage shows Ronson performing solo and with long time musical partner David Bowie. As Elliott sings the lyrics, âThis is for you! How are you doing? It’s been a while/Where have you been? What have you seen? And did you smile?/Like I’m Supposed to do/Like I remember you,â the song takes on new meaning as the love letter to a long-lost lover turns into a musical conversation between two old friends. âI had an opportunity on a day off on tour to shoot a video…it just seemed rude not to!, â says Elliott. âThis video is my gift to the memory of Mick Ronson who gave me so much in my youth and then later on when we got to know each other.â
WATCH NOW
The video was unveiled on the 46th anniversary (8/25/72) of the filming of David Bowie and the Spiders from Marsâ shadowy and subversive video for âJohn, Iâm Only Dancing.â Directed by iconic rock photographer Mick Rock, the video featuring Bowie and the band in their best glam attire and androgynous dancers, was banned by âTop of the Popsâ in the UK and was never released in America as it was deemed too risquĂŠ by the record label.
Elliott recorded âThis Is For Youâ exclusively for the soundtrack for the documentary Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story, which was released in June via UMe following last yearâs successful theatrical run and the DVD/Blu-ray releases. The acoustic guitar and piano ballad, penned by Laurie Heath of the New Seekers, was included on Ronsonâs 1975 album Play Donât Worry. Elliottâs rendition is especially poignant as it features the late Dick Decentâs last-ever performance on the piano. Decent was a frequent Def Leppard collaborator and played with Elliott in Cybernauts, their Bowie cover band, formed as a tribute to Ronson.
The first official career retrospective compilation for the guitar virtuoso, known affectionately as âRonno,â includes highlights from Ronsonâs solo records alongside material from his key collaborations with Bowie, Elton John, Ian Hunter, Michael Chapman and Queen. Elliott first became a fan of Ronsonâs as an adolescent entranced by Bowieâs breakthrough album Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. âI just wanted to give something back, because I was the kid that when I was 12 years old, staring at the inside sleeve of ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ four squares of Bowie and the Spiders, I would be staring at Mick as much as I was staring at Bowie â it was the Jagger-Richards thing. It was Page-Plant; it was Perry-Tyler,â Elliott told Salon earlier this year about recording the song.
Elliott and Ronson developed a friendship after meeting in the early â80s which lasted until Ronsonâs death in 1993 from cancer. Elliott helped Ronson record his final record and sang on two tracks. After Ronson passed, Elliott finished the album for him and Heaven And Hull was posthumously released in 1994.
Despite his production and guitar work with Lou Reed, Morrissey, Ian Hunter and Mott The Hoople, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and many others, it is Ronsonâs dynamic support, contribution, and co-creation of the expansive and multi-faceted career of Bowie and in fact that era of music, that the film and the soundtrack exposes. Featuring exclusive narration by Bowie and exclusive contributions by Rick Wakeman, Joe Elliott, Roger Taylor, Ian Hunter, Angie Bowie and many more, the career-spanning documentary Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story, produced and directed by Jon Brewer, is a tribute to an uncomplicated man who achieved the pinnacle of success in the music industry as well as the rarefied respect from his contemporaries for his production and guitar skills.
